Cincinnati fire fighters and police this morning rescued a large white dog clinging to a log in the flooded Ohio River near the Cincinnati neighborhood of California.

Police tweeted about the rescue attempt in a flood zone near the 5900 block of Berte Street a little after 9 this morning.

Due to high levels of rain and snow lately, the river is much higher than usual. It isn't clear how the dog ended up in the precarious situation. After about an hour and a half, CPD tweeted that the dog had been rescued and the dog was with the SCPA.

"The dog was in a flooded backwater near I-275 when we got to him," a tweet from CPD says, noting that it was 16 degrees outside when the rescue took place.
