How many chances does one get to “celebrate strong and powerful women in business and the arts?” The Cincinnati Ballet and ArtsWave have collaborated to give you one such opportunity this fall as part of a Friends for the Arts “Cocktails and Conversation” event. Expect to rub elbows at a pre-show cocktail reception with top executives from various area arts organizations before the actual dancing dazzles guests. ArtsWave President and CEO Mary McCullough-Hudson and the Ballet’s Artistic Director and CEO Victoria Morgan will of course be there, but CEO of Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, Ellen van der Horst, Tracey Lynn Conrad of Young Philanthropists Society of Cincinnati and Mercy Health’s Director of Communication, Jennifer Young, are also just a few of the influential women who will be present. Why is it crucial to support women in the arts specifically? “In the 2012-2013 Season, American ballet companies with budgets over $5 million will present approximately 290 works with a mere 25 of them by female choreographers,” Morgan says. Cincinnati must be doing something right, as the Ballet will present seven of those. This Kaplan New Works Series features experimental ballets by four female choreographers. 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13.
