June 5 is National Donut Day, created by the Salvation Army in 1938 to celebrate the men and women who served as soldiers during World War I. While it may not be an official holiday for which you can take off of work, you can still leave the office at noon and head to Fountain Square for some free donuts from a baker’s dozen of local bakeries (Bonomini Bakery, Busken, Graeter’s, Holtman’s, Servatii and more), a donut-eating competition and donut-themed games.
Noon Friday. Free. Fountain Square, Fifth and Vine streets, Downtown, cincydonutday.wix.com.
