The Lightborne lecture at Cincinnati Art Museum, featuring internationally recognized photographers, has been renamed the FotoFocus lecture this year in recognition of the upcoming citywide photo exhibition — also called FotoFocus — occurring in October. The lecture features Los Angeles-based Uta Barth, whose work explores the ways photography can explore the realm of painterly abstraction, using blurred backgrounds, cropped frames and the natural qualities of light to capture incidental and fleeting moments. Barth's work deconstructs the conventions of visual representation, calling attention to the physical limits of our sight while exploring a deeper kind of vision. Most recently, Barth exhibited ... and to draw a bright white line with light at a 2011 solo exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago. It featured diptych and triptych-paneled photographs created one single afternoon, tracing the course of light against her home curtains. Cincinnati Art Museum’s Fath Auditorium.
