Miller Gallery, the city’s oldest art gallery, had been owned by one family since its founding in 1960. Jayne Menke of Artonomy design consultancy bought the space last year and kept the name, but she’s updated the Hyde Park Square institution. After months of renovations, the wraps are off to reveal a brighter, more open interior. Check it out Thursday, and meet new director David C. Smith, too. The first exhibits come from two of the gallery’s local favorites: Jonathan Queen, who presents new oils and 12 studies he did for Carol Ann’s Carousel at Smale Riverfront Park; and Matthew Metzger, who displays 10 subtle and haunting atmospheric paintings.
Opening reception 6-8 p.m. Thursday. On view through Feb. 6. Free. 2715 Erie Ave., Hyde Park, millergallery.com.
