Motorcycles have been ingrained into American culture à la James Dean and Easy Rider since William Harley and Arthur Davidson figured out how to attach an engine to a bicycle during the earliest years of the 20th century. So what better way to celebrate these bikes and their place in American mythology than over Fourth of July weekend? The Newport Motorcycle Rally takes place Thursday through Sunday on the Newport riverfront, and in addition to a motorcycle show (with awards for the best-looking bikes), there will be food, beer, contests, prizes and live entertainment.

5-11 p.m. Thursday and Friday; noon- 11 p.m. Saturday; noon- 9 p.m. Sunday. Free. Festival Park, Riverboat Row, Newport, Ky., newportmotorcyclerally.com.
