Are you the proud owner of a good, old-fashioned, infuriatingly difficult-to-solve Rubik’s cube? Can you not only solve that aforementioned cube, but also pride yourself on the speed at which you successfully lock its layers into place? This weekend is your chance to put those skills to the test. The Queen City 2016 Rubik’s Cube Competition — a contest hosted by the World Cube Association, which holds similar events around the globe — is coming to Fort Thomas, Ky., pitting hopefuls against each other for fun, prizes and glory. Events ask participants to solve 2-by-2, 3-by-3, 4-by-4 and 5-by-5 puzzles, while an additional challenge has competitors solve a Pyraminx — a pyramid-shaped puzzle with nine triangular pieces comprising each face — as quickly as possible.
8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday. $14 registration fee; additional $1 per event. Highlander Event Center, 90 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky., 859-441-3000, cubingusa.com.
