Bloomsday sounds like a summer floral event, but it’s not. It’s actually about books. Or one book in particular: James Joyce’s Ulysses.

Celebrated each June 16 in more than 60 countries, this event with a literary twist looks at the lives of the ordinary citizens of Dublin as seen through the eyes of James Joyce. Follow Leopold Bloom, Joyce’s Ulysses, as he travels around Dublin on June 16, 1904, having the same kinds of adventures as the hero in Homer’s epic.

Cincinnati's Bloomsday celebration will feature readings and dramatizations from the novel as well as a performance of Joyce’s favorite song (and Bloomsday’s anthem), “Love's Old Sweet Song.”

Activities kick off at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Irish Heritage Center, 3905 Eastern Ave., East End. Admission is $10.
