As one of the oldest Christmas traditions, the Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival came to Christ Church Cathedral on its 600th birthday in 1940. Since then this pageant has been presented annually for 70 years with costumes, an elaborate musical ceremony, mince pie, plum pudding and a hog’s head (because we ain’t got no boars in these parts). Rooted in ancient times, the traditional presentation of a boar's head at Christmas has come to “symbolize the triumph of the Christ Child over sin."
With three performances between Saturday and Sunday, come watch and listen to lords, ladies, knights, historical characters, cooks, hunters, pages, shepherds and wise men tell the story of the Nativity and sing a bunch of carols. In addition to all this, a yule log will be lit from the last year's ember. Although tickets have already been distributed for these free performances, there will be limited seating available at each presentation. 5 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday.
