It’s that time of year, folks. There’s a bite in the air, the talks of Black Friday shopping are swirling and department stores are already annoying me with Christmas music. Lucky for all of you pre-Thanksgiving Christmas enthusiasts, the Germania Society is hosting its 14th annual Christkindlmarkt this weekend at Germania Park to kick off the holiday season German style. The Cincinnati version of the Middle Age European tradition is highlighted by heated and enclosed booths offering sundry seasonal specialties, such as imported candies and pastries, glass blown ornaments, toys and linens for sale from global and local crafters. The fest will also feature homemade German fare, including Scweinehaxe, Oktoberfest chicken, schnitzel, cabbage rolls and sauerkraut balls, and an assortment of domestic and traditional alcoholic beverages. Entertainment will be provided for all ages, including the Frisch Marionettes, the Dancing Grandmas and a variety of singing and dancing. The highlight of the weekend is the children’s lantern parade Saturday night at 7 p.m., which is led by Saint Martin and Germania’s Oktoberfest Burgermeister.
