Ever wonder why you don’t see as many bees buzzing these days? Master beekeeper Gunther Hauk reveals what is behind the global bee crisis and how we can protect these marvelous givers of life — they pollinate three-quarters of our food. Learn more about the honey bee crisis 7-9:30 p.m. Sunday as Xavier University (3800 Victory Pkwy., Kennedy Auditorium in the Conaton Learning Commons) presents a screening of the documentary Queen of the Sun, directed by Taggart Siegel. It’s a breathtaking look inside the hive, and includes interviews with Hauk, author Michael Pollan and philosopher Vandana Shiva. (Check out the trailer and details here.) The screening is free, but donations are suggested.

Monday, Hauk gives a workshop 9 a.m.-noon at Homeadow Song Farm (5038 Gray Road). Guests will learn about caring for and enhancing the health of the honeybee with a workshop entitled "Out of the Crisis the Future is Born: Colony Collapse Disorder as an Opportunity." Hauk will give a demonstration with the beehives, weather permitting. Go here for details. Later that night, there will be a benefit for Hauk’s honeybee sanctuary at Spikenard Farm in Floyd, Virginia. He will give a talk on "The Mystery of the Honeybee". The event, 6:30-10 p.m. Monday, includes dinner and music. Contact Vicki Mansoor at [email protected] for ticket and location information.
