Black Friday is known for frenzied shopping, leftover turkey sandwiches and the beginning of everyone’s new workout plan to undo all of the poor health choices they made while giving thanks. But in Cincinnati, it marks the beginning of a month-long celebration of the holiday season, as Fountain Square hosts its annual tree-lighting ceremony. Last year’s tree was one of the tallest in history on the Square, measuring 65 feet and adorned with 25,000 white lights and a 5-foot-tall red star. The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with ice-skating and live music from Timeflies. Q102’s Brian Douglas and Channel 5’s Sheree Paolello will be on hand to MC, Mayor Mark Mallory will light the tree and Santa Claus will drop in for a special appearance. The festivities don’t stop with the tree, as the Square gets even more lit with a special holiday fireworks show. And if you’re too tuckered out from hitting every Black Friday sale across the Tristate to make it downtown, feel free to stay at home and catch the celebration on Channel 5 at 7 p.m.
