Even though we crossed the millennial threshold a good nine years ago, the world of science fiction, fantasy and futurism is still scoping it all out. So dust off your regulation spacesuit, anime costume or Klingon outfit, get decked out to the nines and make your way to the Holiday Inn off I-275 North for a weekend of fandom and fraternization with other sci-fi/fantasy nuts of all ages and interests. Millennicon, in its 23rd incarnation, is a wide-ranging event. Interested in science, space, and technology? Share the air with those interested in anime, fantasy flicks and “filking” (the live performance of sci-fi-based folk music). Are you an RPG or video game fan? Come hang with Phillip K. Dick aficionados. You get the idea. Activities include auctions, a masquerade contest, gaming demonstrations and tournaments, with Hugo Award-nominated sci-fi novelist and blogger John Scalzi the guest of honor. Millennicon is the primary fund-raiser for the Miami Valley Fandom for Literacy organization, so you can feel good about indulging the inner geek. Tickets range from $10 to $40.
