Every Fourth of July brings family, friends, food and fireworks, but the Northside Rock ’N Roll Carnival celebrates America’s birthday on a whole different level. The free carnival/parade/festival includes fire breathers, drag shows, sword swallowers and a bed of nails, plus tons of food, drinks, specialty vendors and some of your favorite local bands performing every night. The festivities wrap up on Monday with the can’t-miss Northside Fourth of July Parade, an Independence Day tradition since the 1950s sponsored by the Northside Community Council. The parade (beginning at noon) consists of 600 to 800 participants including veterans groups, bands, civic groups, antique cars, community members and more than 4,000 attendees. So bring your friends and join in the fun beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at Jacob Hoffner Park with live performances by Moonshine Drive, Magnolia Mountain, The Dukes, Team Void, Masters of the Obvious, Two-Headed Dog and Man Halen. Saturday features performances by local favorites Kry Kids and Soapland; Sunday offers The Buffalo Killers and Mallory. The celebration is free and open to the public, and it only happens once a year, so don’t miss out!
