Chef Robert Coltrane's kitchen will be pretty busy from noon-3 p.m. this Saturday as the Summit Restaurant at the Midwest Culinary Institute presents Vegan Ooh La La and serves up mouth-watering vegan fare fit for even the most finicky of eaters. This plant-based buffet, presented by VeganEarth and Mercy for Animals (in conjunction with the Great American Meat-Out), will be filled with earth-friendly foods like black bean and lentil cakes with avocado, cumin-spiced collard greens and tortillas with mango-ginger sauce. And if the thought of that doesn't tantalize your taste buds, perhaps thoughts of chocolate-hazelnut butter torte with coconut mousse will. Although the event has already sold out, VeganEarth, which promotes ways to eat and live that are healthful, sustainable and compassionate toward animals, people and the earth, also hosts monthly potlucks on every third Sunday, so if you've been thinking about swapping that steak out for a yummy veggie burger, their potlucks may be a great place to start.
