Julie Delpy, as writer/director/star, brings cross-cultural hijinks into this bedroom farce about a Manhattan couple (Delpy and Chris Rock) attempting to juggle high-powered creative jobs and children from other relationships. Delpy’s Marion seeks to find the kind of romantic love that her parents had, but things get complicated when Marion’s family — her father, sister and her sister’s boyfriend (who happens to be Marion’s ex) — arrive from Paris. Race and politics spice up the stew, but the main ingredients are far more garden variety in their commonality. The artistic Marion worries about selling her soul, quite literally in fact, while Mingus (Rock) just wants to be the best boyfriend and possible stepparent he can be for their blended brood. 2 Days in New York, the sequel to 2 Days in Paris, aspires to be Woody Allen-esque and it comes close to filling the space vacated by Allen as he romps across Europe during his extended vacation.
