“It’s beautiful out here… it’s so beautiful it hurts my feelings.” Wayne White’s drawled Tennessee accent frames things in such a hilariously human way that one can’t help but love the guy. As one of the most storied artists in American pop and (now) fine art, he demands that funny sort of sweet, common respect due to such a character. The documentary Beauty is Embarrassing charts White’s career, starting as a New York cartoonist and designer for Pee-wee’s Playhouse, as he meanders through the difficult terrain of producing work while staying true to his unique inner vision. Suggested donation of $5. 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4. Contemporary Arts Center, 44 E. Sixth St., Downtown. contemporaryartscenter.org.
