Opera is the operative word for June. Cincinnati Opera kicks off its 93rd season with expanded venues, programming and some of the hottest singers on the scene.
1. Don Giovanni
Don Juan for real, featuring sopranos Angela Meade (The Audition) and Nicole Cabell and Lucas Meachem as Mozart’s legendary Don. 7:30 p.m. June 13 and 15. $25-$140. Music Hall, 1243 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine, cincinnatiopera.org.
2. Der Rosenkavalier
A bittersweet comedy that meshes a woman’s fear of aging with love won and lost. With Twyla Robinson, Ruxandra Donose and Sarah Coburn. 7:30 p.m. June 27 and 29. $25-$165. Music Hall, 1243 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine, cincinnatiopera.org.
3. Opera Goes to Temple
A collaboration between the Opera and Rockdale Temple in Amberley, this community concert presents an evening of Gospel, Jazz, Classical vocal arts and more. The temple concert is sold out but you can take a chance and wait for seats to be released. Chances are good you’ll get in. 7 p.m. June 26. Free, but tickets are required. 4. Realizing Rossini
This workshop offers a chance to hear outstanding young talent from the “Realizing Rossini” summer residence program at CCM. Conductors, pianists and cast from the workshop perform two of Rossini’s classic works — the timeless comedy Il Barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) and La Cenerentola (Cinderella), with Clorinda and Alidoro arias and Tisbe singing an aria in “pocket aria” tradition.
