Hard-touring bassist/frontman Freekbass (leader of the band with the same name) has somehow found some time in his busy road schedule — which recently included a string of west coast dates — to work on a few side-projects. Freekbass and Tobotius is his duo project with local producer/turntablist Tobe Donahue, a member of esteemed turntable crew Animal Crackers and a member of the Bootsy Collins project Science Faxtion (also featuring avant Rock guitarist Buckethead and Primus/Tom Waits/Guns ’N Roses drummer Brian). —-The Freekbass project is a mix of Electro, Rock and Hip Hop — dance-floor-ready grooves with good melodies and lots of interesting quirks. The duo makes its live debut towards the end of the month at the Knoxville, Tenn., Electronica festival, KnoXtasy. Check out some of their tracks here.

Freekbass (aka Chris Sherman) has also been involved in something of a “Jam/Funk” supergroup with DJ Logic, Steve Molitz (the keyboard player from Particle) and Sherman on keys, bass and turntables. That band is currently plotting a mostly west coast tour for this winter.

Freekbass’ last Cincinnati show for the year is Nov. 25 at the 20th Century Theater in Oakley. To read more about Sherman, check out this cool interview piece that will run in the November issue of Relix magazine in its unedited form on Jambands.com.
