Amid the recent controversy about possibly adding more publicly subsidized housing for the poor in Green Township, local Republicans will hold a special forum tonight to discuss methods for blocking the expansion. —-

The Hamilton County Republican Party is hosting a forum entitled, “The Plan to Expand Further into the Suburbs” at 7 p.m. in Delhi Township. Unspecified elected officials from Hamilton County and Green and Delhi townships are scheduled to attend the session and answer questions from attendees, according to the notice distributed by GOP leaders.

The event, paid for by the party, will be held at The Farm in Delhi, a local buffet-style restaurant. It is located at 239 Anderson Ferry Road.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dining begins at 6 p.m. The discussion about publicly subsidized housing starts at 7 p.m.

The forum's agenda includes a section entitled, “What can be done?” It lists three options: a legal challenge, reject federal funding and citizen activity.

Green Township trustees recently voted to opt out of a countywide pact with the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development that called for adding 41 low-income housing units to the township. If that had happened, it would’ve meant 1.8 percent of the township's housing stock was designated for low-income people.

Many of Hamilton County's Republican officials, including Party Chairman Alex Triantafilou, live in Green Township.
