With former members of Billy Goat making up the bulk of their membership, Austin, Texas-based HairyapesBMX and their new album, Expatriate, come with a full-on groove guarantee — It's rump-shakin' music of the highest order (hell, the BMX stands for Butt Moving Experience). While slightly less primitive than Billy Goat,Expatriate is highlighted by ambient textures, raps and slanted melodies, and airtight Funk, Jazz and Hip Hop rhythms, with vocal chants that suggest P-Funk via some kind of tribal ritual. It's rare when a percussionist is a focal point in a band, but Mike Dillon's exotic rhythms and Go-Go leanings guide many of the tracks. In concert, be assured that the Apes will have you're ass shakin' whether you want it to or not.

At Sudsy Malone's on Friday with the Black Magic Rhythm Allstars (featuring former members of Bu Bu Klan).
