German musician Hans-Joachim Roedelius is a pioneer in Electronic music, which means that, as technology advances and music continues to increasingly embrace electronic components, his importance grows with each passing year. In the ’70s, Roedelius founded the groups Cluster (then “Kluster” and, more recently, “Qluster”) and Harmonia, collaborated with Brian Eno and began his solo career, all of which combined to put him at the forefront of the burgeoning Electronic, Ambient and Krautrock movements; his influence can still be felt today in the worlds of Indie Rock, Dance and Avant Garde music. Roedelius’ fearless experimentation continued throughout his long and fruitful solo career, which has seen the musician move from moody piano compositions and spoken-word-infused soundscapes to Techno explorations and collaged works. There are not many people in the world that can claim to have had a hand in shaping the way music sounds today, but Roedelius is unquestionably among that rare breed. Roedelius performs Thursday at The Mockbee with guests Xambuca and Nebulagirl. Tickets are $10. Showtime is 8 p.m. For more on the show, visit themockbee.blogspot.com.
