The Cincinnati Ballet celebrates 40 years of dancing sugar plum fairies, rat kings and more fanciful footwork in the land of sweets with its annual production of The Nutcracker. Presented (in partnership with Frisch’s) since 1974, this year’s rendition of Clara’s adventures with the Nutcracker Prince promises fun and fantasy, with international guest dancers Venus Villa and Rolando Sarabia, Hip Hop-trained dancers from local urban youth performing arts outlet Elementz and Tchaikovsky’s score played live by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, as conducted by Maestro Carmon DeLeone. For an extra special holiday experience, matinee shows on Dec. 23 and 26 feature a Sugar Plum Parade, where audience members are invited to walk across the stage following the performance to see sets, costumes and dancers up close.

Through Dec. 27. Tickets start at $32. Aronoff Center, 650 Walnut St., Downtown, cballet.org.
