Cultures will clash in this disparate buddy dramedy about a New York writer (Patricia Clarkson) who starts driving lessons after the dissolution of her marriage and her Sikh instructor (Ben Kingsley), who happens to be dealing with marital issues of his own. It is not the all-too-obvious lessons that Learning to Drive seeks to impart that will draw in audiences, but Spanish director Isabel Coixet (Elegy, also with Kingsley) and the likely fascinating interplay between Clarkson and Kingsley, two of the best at infusing poignant bits of life into the words coming from the page.
