Jason Osder, an assistant professor with George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs, dives headfirst into topical documentary filmmaking with this examination into the May 13, 1985 standoff between the Philadelphia police force and the radical group MOVE, which resulted in the use of military explosives that decimated a number of row houses and killed five children and six adults. Let the Fire Burn taps into footage that, until now, has been withheld from the public. At the center of this story though is a sad lesson about humanity’s ongoing struggles with ignorance, fear and the abuse of power. Opens Nov. 22 at Mariemont Theatre.
