Writer-director Andrés Muscietti teams up with co-writer Neil Cross to expand his 2008 short about a pair of young sisters (Megan Charpentier and Isabelle Nélisse) found in a cabin in the woods after five years, who get placed into the custody of an uncle (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his wife (Jessica Chastain). The couple begins to question how the girls survived out in the wild for so long and come to realize that the sisters may not have been alone. Mama arrives with the added blessing of executive producer Guillermo del Toro (who has a real affinity for the darker corners of our souls and psyches). Now in theaters. (PG-13) Not screened in time for review
