The latest edition of the story of Krypton’s surviving son arrives courtesy of director Zack Snyder (300 and Watchmen) and screenwriter David Goyer (who developed the story with his Dark Knight collaborator Christopher Nolan), so we’ve heard all of the buzz about how this outing will be darker and more realistic. But, at the end of the day, any Superman tale has to find a way to make us believe that a man can fly and inspire us to be better versions of ourselves. I have faith that Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) will do so because he’s the product of two super-dads — Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner).
