Matthew McConaughey and Republicans

Leafing through the latest edition of The New Yorker I was greeted with the Dolce & Gabbana ad at the right, which features actor/professional narcissist Matthew McConaughey with his shirt unbuttoned down to his navel, waxed chest exposed for all to ogle. I have one question for the marketing peeps at D&G: Is this image supposed to entice me to buy your cologne, dubbed The One, which is described as a "fragrance for men"?—-

Elsewhere in the issue, New Yorker political writer Hendrik Hertzberg has an amusing, typically incisive piece about the white people who might run for the Republican presidential nomination. He puts them in three categories: the Respectables, the Implausibles and the Eccentrics. I have one question for the Republican Party: Really, this underwhelming collection is all you, supposedly one of our two major political parties, can come up with?

UPDATE: Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, one of the better options in Hertzberg's Respectables category, announced early Sunday morning that he would not be running for the nomination. That leaves Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty as the only likely options as the Republican nominee. Sigh.
