President Obama and top lawmakers are meeting at the White House this morning to talk about that whole deficit thing. Both Democrats and Republicans hope to slash the deficit by borrowing more than $2 trillion. Yesterday in a Cabinet Room meeting, Obama pushed for a “grand bargain” in the range of $4 trillion in deficit cuts over the coming decade, although Republicans remain opposed to anything Obama wants to do.—-
John Boehner and Obama last week had private talks that led Democrats to believe the Boehner was willing to entertain revenue increases as part of a full overhaul of the tax code, in exchange for Democrats agreeing to lower increases in Social Security cost-of-living adjustments.
"Everything they told me and (Boehner) is that to get a big package would require a big tax increases in the middle of an economic situation that's extraordinarily difficult, with 9.2 percent unemployment," Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell said on Fox News Sunday. "We think it's a terrible idea. It's a job-killer."
Although she hasn’t decided whether or not to run for president, Sarah Palin says she knows she can win. “I’m not so egotistical as to believe that it has to be me, or it can only be me, to turn things around,” she told Newsweek. “But I do believe that I can win. Family. If it came down to the family saying, ‘Please, Mom, don’t do this,’ then that would be the deal-killer for me," she said. “I think Bristol has made up her mind, and Bristol wants me to run for president. But we’re still thinking about it. I’m still thinking about it.”
The Executive Council in New Hampshire has rejected a new contract with Planned Parenthood, meaning the six centers will stop dispensing contraception. Last year, the New Hampshire Planned Parenthood provided contraception for 13,242 patients, but the rejected contract means cuts, and cuts means someone’s getting pregg-o.
So, remember that pledge that Michele Bachmann signed last week? Turns out there was a clause in there that said slavery was a good thing. But only if you were a black baby.
