President Barack Obama will visit Ground Zero later today, four days after Navy SEALs killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. The BBC says the president will lay a wreath in memory of the September 11 victims and speak to the local relatives, but will not make a speech because his administration is very sensitive to the accusations that the president is politicizing the visit.
President George W. Bush was invited by President Obama to attend the event but declined through a spokesperson. “President Bush will not be in attendance on Thursday,” said his spokesman, David Sherzer. “He appreciated the invite, but has chosen in his post-presidency to remain largely out of the spotlight. He continues to celebrate with Americans this important victory in the war on terror.”
This might be a wise move considering this is the same man who said on September 17, 2001 that he would get Osama bin Laden “dead or alive” and then just a few months later said, "I don't spend that much time on him."—-
Sarah Palin, who was not invited to the ceremony, yesterday said that President Obama is “pussy-footing around” by not releasing the photos of bin Laden’s corpse. Palin claims that the photos should be released “as warning to others seeking America’s destruction.” A disgruntled Palin said via Twitter, “Show photo as warning to others seeking America's destruction. No pussy-footing around, no politicking, no drama; it's part of the mission."
House Intelligence Committee chairman Mike Rogers disagrees with his fellow Republican. "I don't want to make the job of our troops serving in places like Iraq and Afghanistan any harder than it already is," Rogers said. "Imagine how the American people would react if Al Qaida killed one of our troops or military leaders, and put photos of the body on the Internet."
It would surprise me if Judson Phillips, head of Disgruntled Old White People With Too Much Time on Their Hands Tea Party Nation, continued to walk the earth for much longer after yesterday saying that President Obama “is either crazy or has a suicide wish." Phillips is disappointed that Obama didn’t smile or celebrate the death of Osama bin Laden and because bin Laden’s corpse wasn’t covered in pig fat. According to Phillips, this would have been the “American” way to handle the proceedings. And the royal wedding had too many goshdamn double-windsors!
A Texas high school teacher has been suspended after telling a Muslim student on Monday, “I heard about your uncle’s death,” and “I bet that you’re grieving.” The Houston Chronicle reports that the unidentified teacher “has been placed on administrative leave.
The Los Angeles Lakers have lost their first two games in a seven-game series with the Dallas Mavericks. The NBA’s youngest MVP, Derrick Rose, scored 25 points for the Bulls last night despite having an inconsistent night shooting 10-for-27 from the field. The Bulls' series is now tied at 1-1.
The Reds came from behind last night to grab a 3-2 win over the Astros with a two-run rally in the ninth inning.
