All five officers on trial for the deadly shootings on a New Orleans bridge after Hurricane Katrina were convicted of charges stemming from the cover-up of the shootings. The four men charged with civil rights violations in the shootings were convicted on all counts, but the jury didn’t find the officers guilty of murder. Former officer Robert Faulcon was the only defendant to testify and said that he was “paralyzed with fear” as he shot and killed a 40-year-old mentally disabled man, Ronald Madison, as he chased him and his brother, Lance Madison. "None of these people intentionally decided to go out there and cause people harm," said Timothy Meche, officer Anthony Villavaso’s lawyer. He said they did their best, operating under "terrible, horrible circumstances" after Katrina.—-
