American Roots music is in the midst of a popularity spike that rivals the huge Folk revival of the1960s. And Americana’s most recent rise is hardly limited to America, as the blockbuster commercial success of artists like the U.K.’s Mumford & Sons has proven. Washington Park’s free every-Thursday Bandstand Bluegrass series offers another great example of the music’s global reach as it welcomes Melbourne, Australia’s on-the-rise foursome Mustered Courage to town this week. Australia has a strong Roots music scene and Mustered Courage’s contemporary blend of Bluegrass and Folk has been one of its leading lights, earning the group numerous awards in its homeland and increased attention in the States. Acclaimed songwriter Blair Crimmins (who is based in Georgia) joins the Australians at the show with his swingin’ take on old-timey Dixieland and Ragtime music.
