One of contemporary Jazz’s greatest song interpreters, dynamic vocalist Cassandra Wilson has a voice that has long been reminiscent of Billie Holiday in the skill, passion and soul evident in every note sung. The Grammy-winning Wilson has tackled a wide range of songs in her successful career, from tunes by Robert Johnson and Hank Williams to Joni Mitchell and The Monkees, which she injects with so much personality she turns them into her own. Wilson’s forthcoming album, Coming Forth by Day, a tribute to Holiday (and debut for Sony’s Legacy imprint) includes songs from Holiday’s storied catalog, including “Strange Fruit” and “Don’t Explain.” The album is slated for release April 7, which would have been Holiday’s 100th birthday.

7:30 p.m. Friday. $12-$24. Miami University’s Hall Auditorium, 101 S. Campus Ave., Oxford, Ohio, miamioh.edu/performingartsseries.
