The Blue Wisp Jazz Club has settled into its new space downtown at 700 Race St. and this week the club dedicates its live music space to an icon from the area. The room will officially be known as “The Rosemary Clooney Music Room” after it is dedicated as such this Wednesday on what would have been Clooney’s 84th birthday (she passed away in 2002). The Maysville, Ky. native (sister of Nick and aunt of George) began her career singing with her sister Betty on WLW before inking a deal with Columbia Records and becoming a superstar, with numerous hits throughout the ’50s. Wednesday’s dedication ceremony falls on the Blue Wisp Big Band’s regular Wednesday night this week (fitting, as Clooney had performed with the group in the past). The Big Band will play two shows — at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. — with guest singer Mary Ellen Tanner; Nick Clooney is also a scheduled special guest. Admission to the 7:30 p.m. show is $50 and includes dinner, dessert and a drink; it’s $35 for the 9:30 p.m. show (including dessert and a drink). Proceeds from the night will go to helping the club make improvements to the room. Wednesday, May 23. For reservations and tickets, visit the club or call 513-241-WISP. www.thebluewisp.com.
