Born in suburban L.A., Goldenboy mastermind Shon Sullivan got his start as a member of the excellent band Spain before joining late singer/songwriter Elliott Smith’s touring band (he’s also toured with acts like The Eels and Tim Finn). On one tour, Smith’s bandmates were all given nicknames; Sullivan’s was Goldenboy and, since it was while he was work on his first solo material, that was the name used for his solo work. Sleepwalker, Goldenboy’s first album since 2006’s Underneath the Radio, has distant traces of Smith and Spain’s work, similarly working a graceful, understated vein of spacious Indie Pop, with melodies delivered in Sullivan’s mannered, intimate voice that are catchy but not in the bash-you-over-the-head manner of most Pop today. Goldenboy performs with guests The Tongue and Lips. 10 p.m. Free. MOTR Pub, 1345 Main St., Over-the-Rhine. www.motrpub.com.
