Hip Hop sensation Mickey Avalon has experienced enough life drama to fill a dozen albums and a string of Law & Order episodes. Born Yeshe Perl in Hollywood, Avalon was raised by his drug-addicted father and sold pot as a child under the tutelage of his mother, but sought the straight and narrow when he converted to Orthodox Judaism as a teenager. Avalon’s conversion was short-lived; at 19, his father was killed by a drunk driver and within a few years, after moving to Portland, Ore., and becoming a husband and father, Avalon also fell victim to heroin addiction.
Determined to reclaim his life, Avalon returned to Hollywood and met Dirt Nasty (former MTV VJ Simon Rex), who spurred him to explore his Hip Hop interests. Read more in this week's Sound Advice.
