Although there are plenty of musical options in Greater Cincinnati this week (and throughout the summer, especially this year), if you’re up for a little road trip, the Nelsonville Music Festival is just about 150 miles away — in Nelsonville, Ohio, at Hocking College — and boasts an excellent lineup of top-notch national acts.
This year’s lineup might be its best yet, with headliners such as Wilco, Cat Power and John Prine, plus a stellar undercard that includes The Coup, Jonathan Richman, Sharon Van Etten and Calexico, plus a trio of Cincinnati’s finest — The Sundresses, Wussy and The Hiders. Nelsonville is known for its intimacy and coziness — Andrew Bird called it “a hell of a lot better than Coachella” at last year’s event —and you can camp out, check out local art vendors and even bring the kids.
Thursday’s opener features headliners Gogol Bordello (music begins at 6 p.m.). Thursday-Sunday. For the full lineup, directions, more info and to purchase tickets ($120 for all four days or $50-$75 for individual days), visit nelsonvillefest.org.
