One of the leading lights in the modern-day Folk/Americana revival, duo Shovels & Rope’s last album of new material was the widely praised 2014 full-length Swimmin’ Time. But 2015 was even more eventful for Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent, the married/creative couple that drives S&R. Besides having their first child, the twosome released a fantastic album of covers, Busted Jukebox Vol. 1, which features some unexpected song choices, engaging new arrangements and some top-notch special guests on each track. Hearst and Trent are noted for their stellar songwriting talents, but the collaborative Busted Jukebox shows they have equally savvy interpretive skills.
