Hailing from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and formed just over a decade ago, Americana quartet The Steel Wheels has drawn acclaim (and a growing fanbase) thanks to its dynamic blending of Folk, Bluegrass, Country, Soul and Gospel tradition with its own unique contemporary spin. Sometimes progressive, often beautiful, the band’s passionate, compelling sound has earned comparisons to modern Americana favorites like The Avett Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show. Taking a grassroots, DIY approach to touring and issuing recordings, The Steel Wheels recently released their latest full-length, Leave Some Things Behind, an engagingly diverse album that should catapult the group to even greater heights of popularity. Great Cincinnati Folk ensemble Young Heirlooms open. 8 p.m. Thursday. $15.50; $18.50 day of. Taft Theatre Ballroom, 317 E. Fifth St., Downtown, tafttheatre.org.
