When opening for a legendary Rock band on an arena tour, supporting artists might consider simply not getting booed off the stage as a sign of a successful show. But when Soul/Funk quartet Vintage Trouble toured the States with The Who on their Quadrophenia revival tour a couple years ago, the band’s remarkable, high-energy stage show not only wasn’t dismissed by the audience, but the group had the crowd eating out of its hand. Working a vintage Soul angle exceptionally well, Vintage Trouble (which has also opened for The Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi) self-released its debut album The Bomb Shelter Sessions in 2011 and signed to the legendary Blue Note Records earlier this year. But live is where Vintage Trouble has been steadily converting its growing legion of fans, something that will most certainly continue at the band’s Newport tour stop this week. This is a must-see event.
