Veteran Cincinnati Folk singer/songwriter Jake Speed, once one of the more consistently gigging musicians in town, hasn’t been performing a lot as of late, focusing instead on parental duties. But this weekend Speed is hitting the stage for WoodyFest, his annual tribute to American music icon (and one of Speed’s biggest influences) Woody Guthrie. Now in its 15th year, the event (timed to the 79th anniversary of the Great Plains’ dust storms Guthrie so brilliantly chronicled) returns for another night of songs and stories by and about one of the world’s most important artists. Speed’s WoodyFest 2014 performance will be recorded for a planned release during next year’s WoodyFest festivities. “I’ve never done a live recording before,” Speeds says via email, “so it should be a mixture of a bunch of regrettable moments accompanied by glimmers of dusty coolness.”
