New Bob Pollard Music and a Video Contest

Dayton’s favorite son, Guided By Voices CEO Robert Pollard, has a new release coming out Aug. 2 and, perhaps to make up for the fact that it has been over a month without a new release from the prolific mastermind, it’s going to be a “double album.” The cleverly titled Let It Beard is the latest from Pollard’s Boston Spaceships (featuring ex-GBV bassist Chris Slusarenko and The Decemberists’ John Moen) and will be issued on Pollard’s Guided By Voices, Inc. label. Listen to the latest leak from the album, “Tabby and Lucy,” above and click below for details on the Spaceships’ contest/call for music videos for the album’s single, “Christmas Girl.”—-

Aspiring video makers can download the track here. To enter the contest, make a video for the tune, upload it to YouTube and email the link to [email protected]. The band will pick the four best, which will be posted on the Spaceships’ website (here) for fans to vote for which should be the official clip for the song. The winner will have their video featured on Pollard’s site as well as AOL/Spinner and receive a $500 gift certificate to (you can get about 1/4000 of Pollard’s oeuvre with that!). Two runners-up get $100 for the online MP3 shop.

Deadline for submissions is noon on Aug. 9. The four potential winning clips will be posted Aug. 11 and voting concludes Aug. 19.
