Peace activists are planning a surprise party for Gordon Maham, who will be 90 years old next month. Maham, a conscientious objector who served three years in federal prison during World War II, has been a tireless worker for an end to the nuclear arms race. The party is at 1 p.m. Dec. 30 at the Community Church of Cincinnati, 932 Dayton St. in the West End. If you are able, take a vegetarian/vegan dish to share.

The Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center hosts the Nonviolent Communication Workshop from 7-9 p.m. Jan. 8, 15 and 22. Sister Carol Brenner, SC, leads the program. The fee for all 3 sessions is $40, or $35 if paid by Jan. 2. For information, write [email protected].

Build a New World
Xavier University's second annual Vision of Hope speaker series is based on the theme, "Five Pillars of a New World Building," explored in a video by Benjamin J. Urmston, S.J., director of Peace and Justice Programs at XU. Each session meets from 7-9 p.m. The topics are "Democratic World Order," Jan. 22, in the Schiff Family Conference Center at the Cintas Center; "Human Rights," Feb. 11 in the Schiff Family Conference Center; and "Nonviolence," March 19, in a location to be announced. Admission is free.
Teen Legal Clinics
