Norwood Police: There Are Still Laws When You Drink White Claws, Ladies

A Facebook post by the Norwood Police Department similar to others posted by law enforcement departments across the country has gone viral

The Norwood Police Department has a pretty important message it shared via social media Wednesday: Folks who drink hard seltzer are, in fact, still subject to the laws of the land.

In a Facebook post responding to a popular meme celebrating the anarchic spirit of drinking glorified, 5 percent ABV Perrier that has since garnered 10,000 comments and another 10,000 shares, NPD also decided to wade into the contentious terrain of gender and adult beverages.

"We want to clear up some confusion among our younger citizens, particularly our younger female citizens," the post reads. "I guess maybe there could be some males that need to be advised also but, we just can't really wrap our head around that possibility. There are in fact laws, when you're drinking Claws."

Some male people probably do worry about whether drinking a savvily-branded bubbly fruit water makes them look effeminate. Others know that nothing is more empowering than refreshment and a barely-perceptible buzz, regardless of gender.

Either way, NPD offers some sage advice.

" 'Ain't no laws when drinking Claws' is not a viable defense and will not hold up in any courtroom," the viral post concludes. "So in fact if you choose to drink White Claws, be responsible and know your limit."

Plenty of commenters took issue with various parts of NPD's message, while others chimed in to say they found the post hilarious. It should be noted a number of male and female commenters seemed to take offense to the idea that White Claw is for women.

Others avoided the gender politics and went straight for some class-based... err... analysis.

"Surely the Norwood police department already know that the younger females in NORWOOD drink four lokos and Smirnoff," one commenter wrote. "White claws are much more frequent with the female residents of Hyde Park and Oakley."

NPD isn't the first law enforcement department to offer this wisdom. Police in Portland, Maine offered a similar message via Twitter Aug. 19. Not to be outdone, police in Bath Township, Michigan went all the way out there in warning residents about getting "white girl wasted" on the 'Claws in an Aug. 21 Facebook post.

It's just the kind of thing you might post on social media while riding the wave a couple 'Claws can put you on.
