If you’re bored with fireworks and the usual tomfoolery that happens around Independence Day, you might want to head to Newport on the Levee for one of Shadowbox Cabaret’s performances this weekend. For the summer, they’re offering a greatest-hits revue of material that has entertained audiences at the “sketch comedy and Rock & Roll Club” venue on the upper level of the Levee.

Comedy skits and music have been retooled with new ensemble members and fresh casting, so even if you’ve seen some of this material before, it will have some new twists and turns. Some of the company’s best bits — “Monster News,” “The God Pod,” “Date the Vote” and “Mr. Tazer” — will be mashed up with Shadowbox’s house band, BillWho?, providing a soundtrack of tunes by Aerosmith, Steely Dan, Living Colour, Linkin Park and more. Stacie Boord, Shadwobox GM and frequent performer, says, “Best Of not only gives us an opportunity to hone skills. This time we can make what works even better! It’s unlike anything else in town, an experience people want to share with all their friends.”

Get a group together and be entertained with food and drinks from a bistro-style menu plus lots of laughs. That’s what I call independence. $20-$30.
