The Bureau of Missing Persons

You might not have heard of playwright Lila Rose Kaplan, who has made her name with modern farces, bittersweet comic dramas and musicals. But chances are good that you’ll be looking for more after you see this production of her poetic, playful 2009 play inspired by the magical realism of Jorge Luis Borges. It’s a tale of what it takes to come back to life when you’ve been smothered by grief. The central character is Angela, traveling from New York City to a cave in Moscow in search of someone missing. Like Angela, you might find something unexpected.

Through Dec. 20. $20 ($10 rush tickets, if available). Know Theatre, 1120 Jackson St., Over-the-Rhine, 513-300-5669, knowtheatre.com.
