John Steinbeck’s 1939 novel about endurance and hope during the Great Depression was a Pulitzer Prize winner, and Frank Galati’s 1988 adaptation won the 1990 Tony Award. The modern classic is Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s next production. Director Brian Isaac Phillips says, “This story is the definitive portrait of a family struggling to hold onto their dignity in the face of adversity. This novel has been dear to me for many years, as has the play. I am ecstatic that we have the opportunity to bring it to life now, especially when the journey of the Joad family has become so timely.” The production features Sherman and Drew Fracher as Ma and Pa Joad, and Justin McCombs plays Tom Joad. To set the mood for opening night, local musician Jake Speed will be playing in the lobby. $22-$32. Thursday through Sunday. Through April 29. Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, 719 Race St., Downtown. 513-381-2273.
