It’s a law of choral singing that solo voices never stand out, but for once soloists take center stage as MUSE, Cincinnati’s Women’s Choir, presents a cabaret fund-raiser at Below Zero Lounge (1122 Walnut St., Over-the-Rhine). MUSE is internationally acclaimed for its unique sound and you can hear some of the talents who contribute to that extraordinary blend. “Singers who join MUSE come from all kinds of singing backgrounds,” says MUSE accompanist Rachel Kramer. “They have performed with bands and in solo settings for many years. It is great that we have the opportunity to showcase the many individuals who are part of MUSE at the MUSE Cabaret.”

Expect everything from Bluegrass to Broadway with performers like Deb Richardson, Hongwei Chen, Bet Stewart, singer/songwriter Whitney Szabo, vocal phenom Lois Shegog and Camille “Saba” Smith, who stole the show at the Taft Museum’s Fall Jazz Series. Acclaimed pianist, arranger and vocalist Steve Milloy provides the accompaniment. The evening ends with a karaoke session, so there might be even more surprises. Now in its 28th season, MUSE and director Dr. Catherine Roma are acknowledged as innovators in the women’s choral movement, commissioning and performing the works of contemporary women composers as well as traditional and classical material. Funds raised will underwrite MUSE projects such as upcoming concerts and community outreach.
