According to my dictionary, the term “transmigration” means a movement or passage from one place to another. But it also is used to describe the rebirth of the soul after death in another body. What my dictionary doesn’t say is that it means a collection of fascinating and original theatrical works that are happening at UC’s College-Conservatory of Music over three days. Indeed, you have to move from one place to another to see eight different 30-minute shows presented in four distinct venues by 56 students in CCM’s drama program. And the souls of characters will be reborn in the form of actors in training who bring them to life.
Now in its second year, Transmigration is a harbinger of the Cincinnati Fringe, and a local burst of creativity to shake you out of your February doldrums. The titles alone should be enough to entice you: Tap Dancing on Jell-O, Flushed: Take the Plunge!, Still Life, Happiness is a Supple Puppy, deadREM: A look at life, dreams and the space between, Change Corp, Stupid and 47 Bottles in a Lake. You can witness each of these bursts of creativity for free; a ticket will get you into four performances in one evening, beginning at 7 p.m. (or the Saturday matinee at 2 p.m.). You’ll have to show up twice to see all eight, but I suspect you’ll want to.
