Opportunities for Musicians

This one's for the musicians reading (friends, fans and family, go take a smoke and/or potty break and tell your favorite local bands to come over here). Below are a few items that maybe of interest, including local performance opportunities and a chance to be heard on the TV. —-

• If you're like me, you've been thinking a lot about the summer as you freeze your butt off this winter. Artists interested in performing at Fountain Square's successful MidPoint Indie Summer series (or any of the other musical showcases on the Square) can submit for consideration via Sonicbids this year. That's the same promoter tool that the MidPoint Music Festival uses, so if you sign up for an account you'll be in good shape. Head here for more info on how to submit your EPK.

• Speaking of MidPoint, get your tunes ready to submit, because registration begins in less than two months (March 1, to be exact). Mark your calendars for Sept. 24-26, this year's MPMF weekend (can you say "bigger and better"?). Keep an eye on MPMF.com for the latest info.

• The cool IFC TV show Dinner With the Band (a cooking/performance show featuring a variety of musical acts) is looking for background music for its upcoming season. Producers want instrumental tracks only (so strip out the vocal track if you think you have a song that's worthy), specifically “good mood music, high energy rock, pop songs, etc.” They won't pay you, but you'll get some good promo out of it (the act's name will appear on screen while the song plays and IFC's Web site will also have the song and artist info). Send links to streams and Web sites, plus contact info, to [email protected].

• Musicians, be our friend/fan on Facebook! Head over the CityBeat's FB page here and you'll be alerted about our latest promotions, MidPoint updates and various other fun stuff. We gave away, like, 50 cases of Vitamin Water last year! And everyone loves Vitamin Water, right? You'll get the heads up on other goodies, too (movies passes, concert tickets, etc.). Help us out: We're only three friends away from 6 billion (approximately)! You should also be our buddy on Twitter.
